“In combat sports, you never want to be up against the ropes; the same is true in life.” — Britain Hart

What three words would you use to describe yourself?

Britain Hart in Three Words: Passionate, Outgoing and Tenacious.

Tell us about your boxing career and how you got involved in combat sports.

As a kid, I was always playing sports. In high school, I joined the soccer and basketball teams. Later on, in college, I majored in Sports Management and earned a Master’s degree in Sports Management / Administration from Old Dominion University. These were all great experiences for me. However, I’ve had to live through tough times, including a marriage to a violent husband.

During this period, I found myself heading to the gym time and time again to alleviate some stress and fight back against life’s harsh blows. Once I entered the ring, it was euphoria. I never wanted to leave. Boxing always left me with a great feeling- just what I needed given all I was going through.

The refreshingly thrilling feeling of conquering something new is simply beyond description. I see significant progress in myself and the people I train, even if it takes some time. This is empowering for my students and me, and we are always super excited when someone gets it right — especially after a struggle.

How has boxing taught you life lessons?

In combat sports, you never want to be up against the ropes; the same is true in life. Nonetheless, you cannot give up in either case when it does happen (and it will). You do not give up in the ring when up against the ropes neither do you do when the tides are against you in life. You must do whatever you can to get off those ropes. This would mean picking yourself up, brushing up, and refusing to throw in the towel.

We all face challenges, deal with deadlines and have responsibilities for which we must be accountable. Those who win are during this time are folks who know how to adapt, fight outside the box, and keep fighting.

When is your next fight?

My next fight is the inaugural flyweight title fight scheduled for February 19th, 2022, and I’d be fighting against Bareknuckle Christine Ferea.

Do you have interests or hobbies outside of fighting?

I enjoy being outdoors, whether it’s hiking, swimming, or simply being out on a boat. I also like attending basketball and football games.

I’m the mother of an 11-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter. My daughter loves boxing and is already teaching others. My son is more into video games (though he does box with the rest of us). Now that I am so involved in boxing, which I love, those are about all the activities I have time for these days.

You are passionate about the volunteer work you do. Please tell us about it.

I am part of Women of the Carolina’s Fight Life, a non-profit organization based out of Charlotte, North Carolina. The organization is devoted to building young girls and women with self-love mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. We help women build up a healthy self-confidence through our programs.

When women learn to box and to defend themselves, they become aware of what their bodies can do. This gives them a sense of pride and accomplishment. We offer boxing and self-defense classes and run fitness and wellness fairs. We also run a Thanksgiving food drive each year, and this year, we were able to provide Thanksgiving dinner to 600 families in need.

Symposium is a great way for you to share your passion for fighting. How are you using it?

When COVID-19 hit, I lost three of my jobs and needed to make more money. Symposium allowed me to connect directly with my fans and offered me a platform to give virtual training. Some of these people just need someone to talk to, and through Symposium, I was able to connect with them, encourage them and share some behind-the-scenes boxing insights.

What do you like about Symposium?

I love that Symposium is easy to use and great to organize meetings. Symposium is one great way to connect with people and to offer them motivation/coaching/advice without a hitch.

What advice do you have for Symposium creators like yourself?

Whatever you do, stay active and be responsible. If you have set up a meeting, be there on time. Be diligent and reliable. Everything you do online helps to build your reputation.
